The adult Orange-tailed Clearwing is on the wing between late May and June. They are very difficult to locate without the use of pheromone lures to atract the males and are generally very local and scarce in Warwickshire. It is a fairly recent coloniser in Warwickshire and was only relatively recently discovered in the county in 2001 at Burton Dassett Hills.

It is generally associated with calcareous grasslands and hedgerows containing the larval foodplants but it has become increasingly more widespread in recent years occurring in gardens where ornamental Viburnum grow.
